What is Luniverse DID?

DID is a new type of identifier that enables verifiable, decentralized digital identity.
The W3C Credential Community Group (CCG) defines DID as the following:
Decentralized identifiers (DIDs) are a new type of identifier that enables verifiable, decentralized digital identity. A DID identifies any subject (e.g., a person, organization, thing, data model, abstract entity, etc.) that the controller of the DID decides that it identifies. In contrast to typical, federated identifiers, DIDs have been designed so that they may be decoupled from centralized registries, identity providers, and certificate authorities. Specifically, while other parties might be used to help enable the discovery of information related to a DID, the design enables the controller of a DID to prove control over it without requiring permission from any other party. DIDs are URIs that associate a DID subject with a DID document allowing trustable interactions associated with that subject.
Luniverse DID is developed with W3C global standard, and is currently working on standardization technology.
Luniverse DID can issue DID subjects in any form by credential template feature for verifiable credentials. By using the credential template, the service provider (verifier) can make a verification scenario and exchange verified information.

How DID works

Decentralized verification system offered by DID technology does not require a centralized verification server. Participants of the DID system are classified by 1. Issuer, 2. User (holder), and 3. Verifier. Issuer is the entity which issues the credential, where the credential is stored in the user's own device. The user can submit appropriate credential to the institution which requires the credential. The authenticity/validity of the submitted credential is verified through blockchain.
During this process, the user can self-manage its private information within its device, preventing any data leakage/abuse. In addition, using DID does not require additional verification every time; users can simply authenticate by importing previous data.

Participants of DID system are classified as follows: 1. Issuer, 2. User (Holder), 3. Verifier.
An issuer is a party which issues the credentials, which is later stored in the user's device. The user proves its credentials to the entity (service provider) who requires proof of credential. All process is recorded on blockchain, making it possible to verify the authenticity of the credential.
